Her baby was sick and the Achiek Clinic was 15-20 miles away... And she would have to walk.
Achol anticipated the big day she had been praying about. She was going to have a baby!
Like so many expectant mothers in this part of the world, Achol was full of both excitement and fear, knowing that both children and delivering mothers often lose their lives due to complications related to birth. South Sudan sadly boasts the highest maternal mortality rate in the world!
Her daughter, Adeng, was delivered at home in a rural area of South Sudan. However, something was wrong. Achol’s newborn baby girl was not getting the nourishment needed to sustain her life. She was told that the Achiek Clinic in Lietnhom could help. It was the closest clinic, but it was still 15 - 20 miles away. And she would have to walk. But without medical help, her little girl would likely die. She had no choice but to start walking.
So Achol walked for 5 hours to the Achiek Clinic, carrying her critically ill new born daughter.
Upon reaching the Achiek Clinic, the newborn baby was given the medical care she needed and completely recovered.
Stories like this happen every day at the clinic. It’s just one of the many things we do to serve the community with excellence as we point them to Jesus. At the Clinic, we’re committed to bringing healing and hope to those we serve. But unlike medical facilities in the west, the Achiek Clinic is completely funded by the generosity of donors… and we need your help!
